John Franchi

John Franchi has fighting in his blood. His father and brother were kickboxers who introduced young John to the fighting world early on. By age 11, John had begun his own kickboxing and boxing career. Later, in middle school, his wrestling career surfaced which he continued with through college. During his time at Corning Community College, John qualified for the JUCO Nationals. He continued his collegiate career as a standout wrestler at Courtland State. There he was a three-year starter and also three-year participant in the Jiu-Jitsu Club directed under Joe Guidice. Now, John’s professional career is established through his well-rounded knowledge and training of wrestling, which overall created a smooth transition into MMA. His professional record stands at 6 wins and 2 losses. John exploded on the MMA scene, winning his first three fights in various promotions in the New England area. He then won his debut fight in the IFL (International Fight League) which helped him secure a fight deal with the highly renowned WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting). John won his debut WEC fight against Mike Budnick and lost his next two fights to world-ranked fighters, one by decision to Manny Gamburyan and one by submission to Cub Swanson. Even though it was a loss, the fight versus Cub Swanson earned John “Fight of the Night” honors. John later rebounded off his losing streak with a win over a daunting and testing opponent, Matt McCook, in Raging Wolf Productions. With all of his professional experience, John is looking forward to sharing his knowledge and skills with the students of Fifth Round Fitness.
